Delving into Interest Groups - Entry 2

Hello again, I would like to talk today about interest groups who differ in belief over the subject of Global Warming. I have chosen one Liberal and Conservative viewed organization to compare and contrast with one another.

The first organization I chose was called the UCS (Union of Concerned Scientists), which identifies as a Liberal organization who base their efforts on learning more about Global Warming and how they can improve it. Their organization consists of a collection of diverse professional scientists who are passionate about saving the environment and are looking for a platform that will amplify their voice with other professionals who will stand by their augments and concerns. They appeal to the public by using YouTube videos such as The UCS Science Network video to provoke awareness and attract everyday people and experienced Scientist to join them through appealing visuals.

(Since the video I linked before was unlisted, here is another example of their informational videos:)

The semi-rival organization I chose was the Global Warming Policy Foundation, which is a collective group of mostly middle aged white men who do not necessarily identify as anti-global warming but do identify as skeptics. This organization focuses on the political policies that stem and have stemmed from global warming research and try to keep the policies that they believe should not change for the better. They also use the media to make their beliefs more available to the public but use these resources to show recordings of speeches and discussions between their board members instead of visual displays. This foundation also produces articles written by their professors that explain debunking or misinformation coming from other organization that are trying to prove specific aspects of global warming. One article that you can check out is on Climate Hysteria VS Hurricane Resilience.

(Here is one example of a speech that they have recorded and broadcasted.)

In conclusion, these organizations are vastly different in opinion, intentions, and targeted audience. The UCS is attempting to make changes to our environment with the belief that they can change the world for the better and the Global Warming Policy Foundation is attempting to keep our environmental behavior and polices the way they are with the belief that change might not be for the better. However, these articles are similar based on the strategies and shared resources in order to inform their general public.

The question I'm suppose to answer today is : How might an interest groups influence an individual's political beliefs?

My answer to this is : To persuade the public's interest, interest groups work hard to educate the public in attempts to change the public opinion. If they convince a person or group of the need for the change of their specific cause, they then establish social relationships and build alliances.
